Every year on April 22, people around the world observe Earth Day as a way to honor our planet (and bring awareness to any environmental issues). So today’s blog post is a compilation of Earth Day music from my album A Million Skies to help celebrate our beautiful earth.
Echoes in the Mist
Echoes in the Mist opens with a single, calming line that subtly wavers and swells, like the early morning mist. Layers gradually appear, adding depth from the low strings, color from the mid-range synths, and texture from the high chimes. The entire work swirls and shifts like a living organism.
Morning Star
Morning Star opens with a sweet piano melody that builds with layers of strings, painting an image of a beautiful sunrise. A low, sustained countermelody supports the sparkling piano. Overall, Morning Star is calm, reflecting the peace and tranquility of the early morning. A slight build-up begins at 2:15, however, leading into a perfect cadence of sunlight and warmth.
Reflections in the Water
Reflections in the Water combines two beautiful pieces by classical composer Claude Debussy, create images of a shimmering pond. The watery Clair de Lune softly blurs the lines of the famous piece, leading into Debussy’s The Sunken Cathedral (2:30). Strings support the piano, creating a sense of depth and fullness. The music swells and flows, much like a reflection in the water.
Fun fact: The title is also a play on Debussy, as the first movement in his Images Book 1 is called Reflections in the Water.
Here are Debussy’s pieces if you want to compare:
Clair de Lune
The Sunken Cathedral
Reflections in the Water
Music is such a wonderful way to celebrate our planet and tell her stories! What else would you add to this list of Earth Day music?
